Onggi Garden
Studio Moonya designed an Onggi garden for a Korean couple in LA, installed by @mezcla.landscape. Korean medicinal seedlings are tucked into the onggi, 옹기, which are traditaionlly used for fermenting. Artemisia princeps is Korean mugwort, 쑥, an edible plant typically used for stews, teas, and skin treatments. Moonya believes that landscapes and gardens can reflect the various histories of the site and authentic cultural origins of the people who live there. This residential garden is designed for a Korean couple because this amplifies an aspect of their lived experience. There is a direct relationship between where we come from and what a landscape can be. Native sages, toyon, poppies, and local stone muster up around the immigrants. An ocotillo pretends to be a wallflower. Jose Devora of Mezcla set up the existing Jacaranda w some drip irrigation.
